Garden City Beach

Yesterday, I went to Garden City Beach to meet up with some coworkers for a day on the beach. I had a lot of fun, and it was nice to see another beach. The water now is starting to get warmer, and I actually braved it to get out in the water to play. There were a few surfers out there, including her husband, and two children (her husband would help set them up for a wave).

Saturday Golfers

The golfers came out early this morning, as it is a great Saturday morning. I decided to let Toby out on the balcony to go enjoy the scenery and golfers. As he now knows that when I say "What are the golfers doing?" he runs to the window to look. I got down on his level to take this picture, and he actually has a pretty good view. No wonder he's always laying by the sliding glass door to look out!

Myrtle Beach

A former coworker of mine from Fayetteville was down at the beach this weekend with a friend. I met up with them this afternoon, and we went to Myrtle Beach for a bit, then over to their condo and floated in the lazy river. It was great seeing a familiar face and it was fun getting some sun a the beach! Unfortunately, I have to work tomorrow, but I would like to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day. Plus, I want to say thank you to all of our troupes past, present, and future for allowing us to have the freedom that we enjoy today.

Walk on the Beach

Wow, it's my first Saturday here at Pawleys! Last night, I put some Kahlua Pig into the crock pot to cook, and was fully ready to enjoy my weekend. I got to sleep in a little, not too long thanks to Toby wanting to play. Before lunch, I went for a nice walk on the beach. It took me a while to find parking, but I was able to get a good spot and went out for a stroll. As dogs are still allowed on the beach, there were tons of people with their dogs playing. Also, since it is Memorial Day Weekend, and nice, warm weather, there were lots of people. It was a great walk, and the water is starting to get warmer, so I can see getting in the water to play coming in the future. After the walk, I came back to my apartment and enjoyed a nice pork sandwhich, yummy! Great first Saturday actually here at my condo!

Wii Workout

I just bought the new Wii EA Sports: Active Personal Trainer today. I tried it out and I really enjoyed it, and it provides a pretty good workout. I'm trying the 30 day Challenge, so let's see if I can keep it up. The game comes with the resistance band and a leg strap to put the nunchuck controller in. It leads you through a tutorial of the new exercises, and coaches you throughout the exercise, as well as tells you how many calories you are burning. If you have a Wii Fit, you can use your balance board with some of the exercises (although, I haven't brought my Wii Fit down here yet, so I can't use that part yet). I really enjoyed the first workout, and could tell that it does provide a good workout. As I have the Wii Fit, it is fun, and some of the activities can really burn some calories, it does not have a set program, so you can pick and choose what you want to do. The Wii Fit does have other nice features that this doesn't have, such as getting weighed on the balance board and the fun little games (like hula hooping). It will be nice to compare the two over time, but I really am going to try to do the 30 day challenge to see how I like it. Wish me luck!

Mom's Birthday Dinner!

We are in Wrightsville Beach this weekend, and as today is my mother's birthday, we went to Hiro Japanese Steakhouse. The chef had the shrimp standing on tail, singing Happy Birthday in a little shrimpy voice, and at the end, the server brought out the sherbert, and put a little fan and candle in it with the whole table singing Happy Birthday to mom. Fun dinner experience!

Myrtle Beach Bike Week

This past week has been the Myrtle Beach Bike Week, if any of you have been following the news, this year has been somewhat of a wash compared to other years. The city passed numerous ordinances that have limited the amount of bikers, passed certain laws that are only in effect in the city of Myrle Beach, and have made the week less appealing to many bikers. Of course, one of these laws being a helmet law. If you do not already know, helmets are not required for riding a bike in the state of SC, and a lot of bikers are upset by this. Of course, I think that this should be a State law to begin with, just as wearing a seat belt is, but this is not the place to have that debate. The good news is, that this year, there have been far fewer accidents (20s vs 90s last year) and far fewer injuries as a result. The bad news is, that many bikers did not come out this year, and the result has been far less business and cash flow for the area. This is normally the beginning of the season for the Grand Strand, however, this year, businesses have suffered. On a interesting note, I have seen many different biker clubs, including the Hells Angels, and apparently Robbie Knievel was in town this weekend signing autographs and such.

By the way, this picture was taken last weekend at the beginning of biker week at a bar/club that only opens during bike week and for various large occasions of the such. There are more bikes around now, but I'm told that the number is still far fewer than it was last year.

Toby's Favorite Place

Toby absolutely loves the balcony and the fact that it is screened in. Earlier today, he saw a squirrel and barked at it trying to get it to come play with him. Now, he has piled 6 of his toys in front of the door so that he can play with his toys and watch the view. Then, I let him out on the balcony, and he wouldn't come back in! He stayed out on the balcony for a few minutes by himself and FINALLY came back inside when it suited him (as I was already inside and just left the door open until he decided to come back in). It was very funny!

Happy Mother's Day

Here is to all of the mothers out there! My mother has been wanting the Topsy Turvy planters for months now, but has been unable to find them. The other day, I was at CVS here at the beach, and got her 2. Needless to say, she was very happy, and I helped her get her new plants planted. They are on a temporary hook until she can devise a higher/sturdier hanging area. Hopefully, soon to come will be some tomatoes and cucumbers!

Happy Mother's Day!

Pawleys Island Beach

Today, I stopped by the beach briefly after work. The beach was very pretty, and it is a nice, quiet area! My condo is only like 5 minutes from the actual beach, not too bad! On the way to the beach, you cross over a bridge of water, and in the marshy/river area, there are lots of gazebos for fishing or for getting into the water for playing. At one gazebo, there were a group of people with bathing suits and floats to float in the river, looked like fun (although, I think it is still a bit cold for my tastes).

First Day

Here is a picture of the entry for the hospital across the street from the outpatient clinic where I work (I had to go to the hospital for orientation stuff). I just liked how the hospital had palm trees at the entry!

Pawleys Island

I drove down to Pawleys Island today, and here is my apartment! The drive took a little less than 4 hours, and I didn't have any problems. So far, everyone that I have met here have been very nice, and Toby seems to like it. He especially likes the screened in porch where he can watch the golfers. I start work tomorrow, so wish me luck!

Day 2 in Savannah

Today, we walked around the streets of Savannah and went shopping. We are all wearing our matching shirts to commemorate the event! Tonight, dinner at Tubby's Tank House and to Savannah Smiles, the dueling piano bar. Fun times!

Savannah

I am in Savannah, GA this weekend for my best friend's bachelorette party/weekend. We arrived at our hotel (Holiday Inn Express) located in the historic downtown area at around 6 pm. The hotel is very nice, and the view from our room is amazing. Now, it's time to enjoy the weekend and celebrate Kelley's last few weeks of being a single woman.
