I was finally able to find a new picture to suit my tastes for above the fireplace/mantle. This is Van Gogh's painting called 'Irises'. I did some research on the painting, and he painted this while he was in the asylum in Saint-Remy for his psychiatric problems. In 1889, while hospitalized, Vincent convinced his brother to send him some painting supplies. He painted the scene of the irises blooming in the garden of the hospital, and sent it to his brother as a way to show that he was not as melancholy any longer. Interesting little story!
